Though the Javelina were initially expected to add contracts prior to the draft, the organizational plan underwent an abrupt change when they realized they had an opportunity to shed contracts and open the season with four contract extensions. It now appears that plan will come to fruition, giving the team several 'bullets in the chamber' for in-season dealing and/or a multitude of extension options in a season following an historically deep draft.
"I can't say who or what, but there is a deal in place," said the anonymous source. "We should have 12 or 13 open contracts heading into the draft, giving us a ton of flexibility and maneuverability. We've guaranteed our fans a very interesting and potentially exciting off-season, that much is certain."
